Was it just me, or did it seem there was a lot of underlying, simmering Anger at the Oscars last night? Justifiably at Weinstein, or discrimination, or whatever, but it didn’t feel like a celebration of good works, it felt like a protest. And while I recorded from 5:15PST to whenever my satellite provider’s DVD thought the show was done, somehow I missed the awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture. Did it run that long, as well as grumpy? For a medium which is falling in importance due to costs, accessibility, focused competition, and the time delay from real events, it seems a major failing to produce something which requires us to watch lecturing speeches from people we’ve often never heard of for jobs we barely understand.
